Nutrients for Stress? Q & A with Amalie Reedtz-Thott

Feeling stressed out and burnt out? Amalie Reedtz-Thott teamed up with Vitaviva to formulate Nurture x Vitaviva, a line of supplements to support the body during periods of stress and fatigue. The trio of supplements address the nutritional needs of the nervous system, while promoting quality sleep so that the body can retain its wellbeing and strength during a trying time. Amalie talks to us about her newly launched supplements and gives us some of her personal tips for dealing with stress.

Amalie, can you tell us a little bit about your background and what inspired you to create Nurture?

I am a daughter, sister, wife, and mother. I am a psychiatric nurse and an Educated Body Control Pilates teacher. Because I was trying to be all those things to perfection, I experienced harmful stress and that made a big impact on my life. I am convinced that the mind and body are connected, and that we need to work holistically to heal ourselves. So for me it  was important to support my body with the right nutrients. What was missing in my process was the complete package of supplements that contained what I needed: a potent blend of vitamins, minerals, and herbs. That is why I created Nurture. I decided to reach out to my favorite vitamin brand Vitaviva as they have 20 years of knowledge and expertise in the field, and together we created Nurture x Vitaviva.

What is Nurture?

Nurture x Vitaviva is created to support the body and mind. Nurture x Vitaviva consists of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and vegan Omega-3 fatty acids. My hope is that people will become more aware and take stress symptoms seriously. I would love for people to look inwards and reflect. If Nurture x Vitaviva can do just a little to help cultivate more of a mind and body connection, I would be extremely happy.

You refer to Be Mindful as your star product. Can you explain why this supplement is so important and how it supports the nervous system?

Be Mindful is the star of this trio of products because it contains many nutrients to support your nervous system. It is a powerful complex of B vitamins and herbs. Vitamins  B1, B2, B3, B6, B8 and B12 contribute to normal functioning of the nervous system. Thiamine (B1) contributes to normal psychological function. Riboflavin (B2) contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, vitamin C contributes to normal psychological function, and zinc contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. What makes this supplement so unique for me is that the B vitamins are combined with herbs like Ginseng Panax, Schisandra, and Rhodiola.

There are so many adaptogens that can help with stress. Can you tell us about the three you chose for Be Mindful (Ginseng, Rhodiola rosea, and Schisandra)?

Ginseng Panax is a powerful adaptogen that supports and helps to reduce mental fatigue, Schisandra supports a normal functioning of the nervous system and Rhodiola supports the body during physical stress. These potent adaptogens are included in this complex to support your body and give back the balance. I myself love adaptogens because they can support our bodies to better manage stress and maintain balance, or homeostasis.

Can you tell us about the herbs you’ve included in Be Sleepful?

I wanted to make a sleep support that does not make you feel drowsy but helps promote sleep naturally. During stressful times it can be difficult to cover your normal need for sleep. When we sleep, our batteries are recharged. Therefore, we need to take our sleep seriously. When life is running a little too fast, it can be hard to slow down. So we have selected herbs such as hops, passion flower, lemon balm, chamomile flower and valerian extract which all contribute to relaxation and help maintain a normal quality of sleep. Hops has a relaxing effect on the body, passion flower supports normal sleep, and lemon melissa supports calmness and better sleep. These herbs are combined with the amino acid L-tryptophan, as well as magnesium and essential B vitamins.

Why are essential fatty acids DHA and EPA so important? How do they assist the body during stress? 

A healthy diet is important for optimal brain health, which is important also during stressful periods in life. Be Nourished contains Omega-3 fatty acids DHA & EPA, which is vegan and derived from algae, a naturally rich source of DHA. Be Nourished can be taken on a daily basis, but it is especially relevant during stressful periods.

What daily practices have you found to be helpful in dealing with stress? 

Meditation and breathwork have been a game changer for me. It gives me an awareness of my body and mind I didn’t have before. Healing comes from within.
