Jena’s Top 3 Lasers and Procedures For Ageless Skin

Jena’s Top 3 Lasers and Procedures For Ageless Skin

It’s no secret that I’ll do whatever it takes to create ageless, luminous skin for you and me. I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup, so I always strive for a blemish-free complexion with a natural glow. Every Agent Nateur product is overflowing with ingredients that leave the face supple, youthful, and healthy, so I don’t need to wear heavy foundation, highlighter, or bronzer… my skin is radiant on its own.

With as much care and precision I put into my skincare, many people are surprised when they hear that I love spending time in the sun, and I’ll be the first to admit that I can sometimes over-do it. After a summer of soaking up vitamin D, I begin to notice a change in my skin. It can tend to look dull and dehydrated and my fine lines become more visible. Come November/December, I know it’s time for some TLC.

I’m constantly being asked what skin treatments and procedures I’ve had done. While this may seem invasive, I take it as a compliment and am more than happy to share. I’m flattered that the work I’ve put into my beauty regimen shows and I always want to encourage others to find a treatment program that will give them skin they’re excited to show off.

Jena Covello’s Top 3 Lasers and Procedures for Ageless Skin

While my very first skin tightening treatment was back in 2010, it wasn’t until the last three years that I began experimenting with different procedures. Through some trial and error, I’ve found three treatments that have dramatically improved my skin texture, evened my skin tone, and brightened my complexion.

Forma, Genesis Laser, and Vivace Microneedling are my absolute favorite skin treatments and they all play a key role in my regimen. Here’s a little history of when I’ve had these treatments done, and a before/after picture from 2017 to now, so you can really see the difference the last few years have made on my skin.

2010: First skin tightening treatment until 2017

2017: Switched to Forma skin tightening treatments.

2018: Introduced Genesis laser treatments.

2019: Began Vivace Microneedling treatments.

Full disclosure: I’ve been getting a little botox and filler since age 35, but it’s minimal. (And in case you were wondering, my lips are natural! You can watch Rand Rusher and I here discussing it.

FORMA

Forma, also referred as the “nonsurgical facelift” is a laser-free treatment that increases your natural collagen production through the use of heat and radiofrequency. The process reminds me of an ultrasound because the practitioner applies gel to the treatment area and then goes over it with a heated wand that is auto-adjusting. This ensures the correct temperature is used throughout the treatment and there’s no risk of burning.

Forma is FDA approved and recommended for anyone who wants to tighten the skin on their forehead, eyelids, neck, chest, or anywhere else on the body. It’s also known to contour by subtly lifting the brows and accentuating the cheekbones.

My Experience with Forma

A few years ago, I was on the hunt for a treatment that would reduce my smile lines, tighten my jawline, and refine my skin’s texture. I first tried Clear + Brilliant, a fraxel laser procedure, but it was excruciatingly painful — I have chills just thinking about it. Not only that, I was so red afterward and I didn’t notice any improvement. Needless to say, I didn’t go back for my second session.

Discovering Forma in 2017 was a game-changer. This treatment is a favorite of the Kardashians, and I totally understand why. It’s completely pain-free, and I only experience a little redness for about an hour afterward. Immediately after my Forma treatments, I have an incredible glow — I notice a new firmness in my skin and the size of my pores diminishes dramatically. The results keep improving for a few months after the treatment, and I’m typically due for upkeep around the one year mark.

In the past, I’ve had my Forma done in a single six-hour session, but I would recommend buying a package and breaking up the treatment into several standard 30 minute sessions. Le Jolie Medi Spa in Los Angeles offers a six-session package, which is perfect for a year’s worth of treatments.

Pro Tip: If you’re new to Forma, use the first four treatments right away and space them out every week or two. Then save the last two sessions for about nine months later when you need a little upkeep. This way, the results can last up to 24 months.

LASER GENESIS

The Laser Genesis treatment offers some of the same benefits as the Forma, but is also effective on broken capillaries, rosacea, scarring, and uneven skin tone. This treatment uses laser technology to gently heat the dermis, which kills bacteria to prevent future breakouts and stimulates collagen production to heal acne scars and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

My Experience with Laser Genesis

I first introduced Laser Genesis into my skin treatment regimen in 2018 when I was looking to reduce redness and eliminate some broken capillaries on the side of my face. The treatment takes less than a half hour and feels like a hot rubber band snapping against my face. It can be a little uncomfortable, but it shrinks my pores, reduces my rosacea, reverses sun damage, and leaves my skin smooth, refined and bright.

I truly believe that the experience of Laser Genesis depends on the quality of the practitioner. I see Min at Skin Perfect Medical Aesthetics in Whittier and all of my treatments with her have been amazing. She changed the setting of the laser to zap my broken capillaries, which turned black and disappeared after several treatments.

Pro Tip: The pricing and quality of Laser Genesis varies a lot between spas, but once you find a practitioner you like, I recommend buying a package of six treatments and having the sessions a month apart. I do this once a year.

VIVACE MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling causes micro injuries that stimulate the body’s natural healing response by boosting the production of collagen and elastin. This process reduces scarring, minimizes fine lines and wrinkles, and improves skin texture.

Vivace microneedling is an advanced microneedling treatment that delivers radiofrequency technology deep into the dermis to instantly tighten and brighten skin. This revolutionary treatment is done by a motorized machine and extra fine needles so there is little to no bleeding or swelling. It also utilizes LED light therapy to reduce redness and promote the healing process.

My Experience with Vivace Microneedling

In 2019, I decided to take my skin treatment to the next level with microneedling. I had been hearing awesome things about Gregory Mueller in Beverly Hills, who is best known for his minimally invasive neck lifts (he did Demi Moore’s), but he also does the best Vivace Microneedling in Los Angeles. This treatment is another favorite of Kim K’s because it makes the skin appear so much younger, vibrant, and glowy.

I’ve had two Vivace Microneedling treatments and I could go on and on about how amazing they are. The experience is completely pain-free because they use a numbing cream and administer a liquid shot of toradol, an anti-inflammatory that is often used for endometriosis pain in the ER. During the treatment, the machine goes over your face three times and penetrates deep into the dermis for long-lasting results.

After my Vivace Microneedling sessions, I was only red for a night and the results kept improving over the course of six months as my body continued producing more collagen. I noticed fewer fine lines, my skin was lifted, my pores were smaller, and my face was so bright it almost looked airbrushed.

Pro Tip: Many MediSpas will recommend doing Vivace Microneedling in a series of 3-6 treatments, but I have it done just once a year since I’m combining it with other treatments. If you’re feeling adventurous, ask about microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma) or placenta. I haven’t tried these yet but I’ll be sure to update if I do!

When it comes to defining your personal regimen of skincare treatments, the best advice I can give is to follow your intuition. I alternate between these procedures based on what I can sense my skin needs, rather than following a schedule set by a MediSpa. There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment for skincare and while this protocol works wonders for me, finding a regimen that suits you may require some trial and error.
