Marine collagen is a protein beneficial for skin, nails and hair. It’s one of the most abundant proteins and amino acids found in the body. Collagen peptides play a pivotal role in strengthening the elasticity of our hair, nails, skin, bones, eyes, joints and tendons. By the time we are 30, our body’s ability to produce collagen decreases which is why we begin to experience wrinkles, hair loss and brittle hair and nails. Supplementing with marine collagen can significantly improve hair, skin and nails.
Oral Intake of Low-Molecular-Weight Collagen Peptide Improves Hydration, Elasticity, and Wrinkling in Human Skin: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study.
According to the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, the science behind collagen peptides taken as a supplement reveals strong clinical evidence to prove it’s ability to restructure the collagen network in deep skin layers. This represents an amazing breakthrough in anti-aging science. The study also shows a profound effect of collagen peptides on skin hydration through the stimulation of hyaluronic acid production. This new skin health data performed by leading dermatological institutes Laboratory Cosderma and EC Biolab in France, and the Souken Laboratory in Japan, features evidence from two double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trials.
The clinical research showed that the peptides significantly decreased the fragmentation of collagen in the deep layer of the dermis by -18% after 4 weeks and as much as -31% after 12 weeks of intake. Peptides also significantly increased the density of collagen in the dermis by +9% after 4 weeks of intake. Skin hydration increased by an astonishing 28%, counteracting the appearance of dry skin. The ex vivo studies displayed collagen’s positive impact on the skin cell’s ability to produce collagen fibers and hyaluronic acid.
Dr Elian Lati of the BIO-EC Laboratory said: "The results delivered by collagen peptides within the skin tissue were real: there is a particularly high stimulation of GAGs such as hyaluronic acid. The ex vivo study provided important insights into the mechanisms of collagen peptides on tissue level which provide the basis for its skin anti-aging effects." This data shows how collagen peptides help to strengthen and rejuvenate the deeper skin layers and maintain the collagen that is key to prevent wrinkles and sagging. It's significant effect on skin hydration is also important because hydrated skin is crucial for smooth, plump skin to prevent the formation of wrinkles.
Oral supplementation with specific bioactive collagen peptides improves nail growth and reduces symptoms of brittle nails.
In this particular study, bioactive collagen peptides treatment promoted an increase of 12% nail growth rate and a decrease of 42% in the frequency of broken nails. Additionally, 64% of participants achieved a global clinical improvement in brittle nails, and 88% of participants experienced an improvement 4 weeks post‐treatment. The majority of participants (80%) agreed that the use of BCP improved their nails' appearance, and were completely satisfied with the performance of the treatment.
This study demonstrated that the daily ingestion of BCP increased nail growth and improved brittle nails in conjunction with a notable decrease in the frequency of broken nails.
How collagen affects your hair.
Marine collagen is made of an abundance of amino acids which are used by the body to create the hair forming protein keratin. Our marine collagen is sourced from the bones and scales of deep caught kosher fish. Heavy metals are found in the fat of the fish, not the bones or scales. Collagen is filled with something called proline, a rich source for keratin and hair growth. It contains antioxidants that fights free radicals that can harm our hair follicles and skin.
Our hair follicles are rooted in the dermis layer of our skin, which is mostly made up of collagen. Supplementing marine collagen for hair loss prevention to our diet may help fight against this. We recommend giving yourself three months to see results.
