Jena’s May Edit

May is for Me Time, manis, matchas and more.  Here are a few of my favorite things this month:

T H E   R E T R E A T: I’ve been working harder than ever recently and sometimes it’s easy to forget the impact working beyond our regular boundaries can have - both emotionally and physically. All my stress was manifesting in my gut and uterus, so I knew what I needed most was some ‘me’ time at the We Care Spa in Palm Springs, for a week of cleansing, healing, thinking and spa treatments.

I’d been previously and done four-day cleanses, but this time I promised myself a full week. This would allow me to properly detach from work and focus on my mind, nutrition, energy and flow. Each spa treatment is designed to complement the detox, and helps move the toxins through. From colonic treatments to scrubs, massages, face and body treatments, you are in the most expert of hands, literally!  I came home feeling so healed, my senses had become heightened and I don’t think I’ve felt more relaxed during any spa treatment ever before.

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. I’m so grateful that we now have the Agent Nateur facial and body treatment on their menu. If you can find a way to get there, your body and mind will thank you. For those of you living further away, there may be something similar nearer to you, which I hope brings you the revitalization, rejuvenation and time to focus on yourself that we all need and deserve.

A T   H O M E: We currently have these fabulous face and body bundles lined up for you if you want to achieve excellent results at home:

One of my favorite drinks right now has to be Rocky’s Matcha - a brand that is a big hit in LA, Miami and Tokyo. You can get yours in LA at Jon & Vinny’s. It’s available hot (they do an Americano and a Latte), iced and as soft serve.

A couple of really effective supplements I’ve discovered for body and mind are:

Vit’All+ Bromelain: This one really helps your gut. Bromelain promotes digestion and improves circulation. It targets pro-inflammatory cytokines that damage the lining of the gut and will also decrease colonic inflammation, while healing the tissues found in the gastrointestinal tract. A bonus is that it will also reduce inflammation from tendonitis, sprains and strains, and other minor muscle injuries.

Vit'All+ L-Glutamine 500mg capsules: These capsules provide an essential amino acid for the body and mind. L-glutamine helps improve fatigue and rebalance mood, enhancing alertness and memory capacity.

T H E   S U I T: I’ve talked before about my love of a good cut, of a classic and monotone look, so this suit from Vetements answers all my prayers. It’s a chic power suit that’s dramatic, stylish and adaptable for many occasions. It features the latest trend in huge shoulders with endless pant legs, and a delightfully girly bodice so you still get a semi casual silhouette. I can see myself wearing this for business and for evenings out.

T H E   S H O E: These Italian-made peep-toe black satin Magda Butrym heels featuring the most adorable 3-D flower have a vintage vibe - think 1940s femme fatale. I love the round pointed toe and tapered heel. One for many special occasions.

I’m always inspired by great design, especially if it’s a little unusual. One of my favorite designers is Ettore Sottsass, a 20th Century architect, who designed many interiors and buildings but is also famous for his furniture, jewelry, glass, lighting, home and office wares - often defined by bold colors. So I was thrilled to discover that some of his work still occasionally comes up for sale. I’ve currently got my eye on this Nilo vase, which he designed in 1983.

I’m continually adding to my La Bouche Rouge lipstick collection. This shade in Rouge Anja is a rich, bold red that looks just stunning. The formula is packed with ingredients like shea butter, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid to keep your lips hydrated, plumped and soft. And of course you can help save the planet a little too, by choosing the LBR refills.

I use these cute Paw Paw beauty blenders every single day - with foundation and when I’m applying holi (sun). You can use them wet or dry, and they give a perfectly even distribution of your product. They’re great value for money and are even washable and reusable, plus they’re latex-free - so they’re suitable for sensitive skin.

I’m so into my springtime nail colors. Chanel’s Le Vernis collection has a fun pink - Chanel 175 - SKIEUSE and a muted light blue: Chanel 125 - MUSE. Both are long lasting and give a gorgeous glossy sheen.

Beautiful nails need beautiful cuticles and Dior’s Creme Abricot is one of the best treatments around for softening the cuticles and the skin around the nails - no wonder it’s been a best seller for over 60 years.  Dior has reinvented the formula - it’s still characterized by the famous apricot color and the chic circular container, but it now has added infusions of apricot oil and seaweed extract.  This creme also helps boost dry or ridged nails. It’s super rich, so I find the best time to use it is just before bed.
