Emotions and liver imbalance

Emotions and liver imbalance

The other week I put out a blog post connecting our skin health with our liver health. The liver is one of the most important organs in the body for overall health and wellbeing. When we think of the liver we automatically think of detox organs- and YES it most certainly is, however it also manufactures and regulates our hormones, controls our fat storage and energy production, creates proteins, cleanses our blood and plays a huge role in digestion and regulation of our nutrient supplies.

According to Chinese medicine, the liver organ is responsible for smooth flow of emotions as well as flow of Qi and blood. It is the organ that is most effected by stress and emotions. Hence when we are stressed .. we can almost always see this come out in our skin but liver stress also  throws off our emotional wellbeing.

Anger is a major emotion associated with the liver. If you are heated, irritable, get angry easily, have trouble winding down from days activities, have trouble reasoning or going with the flow and letting things go, you may be experiencing a liver imbalance.

When we look at how the body responds to stress using multiple organs, systems ,pathways and chemical reactions, we see a bigger picture in the stress response, stress hormones can overburden the liver and actually become toxic to the body. The liver is responsible for balancing and getting rid of adrenaline. If it cannot keep up with the levels of stress hormones being produced, it is forced to store them. The presence of this adrenaline in your liver will lead to emotional instability. Among all the energetic systems, liver energy is the most sensitive to the effects of stress.

Tips and tools for a happy liver

Reduce stress through :

-Lifestyle changes

-Meditation and breath work

-Creativity

-Balanced exercise and movement

-Acupuncture

-Rest

And then Try to channel your anger into productive and healing action by

-writing it down

Processing our emotions is so important as they create energy blocks in our meridians and lead to poor organ function.
