calm (beauty): The Benefits Of Taurine And Spermidine
I formulated calm (beauty) with two of the best baseline longevity supplements I've found called taurine and spermidine. I used to struggle with insomnia from Low Dose Naltrexone, a medication I used to take for endometriosis. I am also an anxious flyer and don't drink any alcohol so meditation and frequency music is always my go-to when I feel ungrounded. I didn't have much of a natural remedy for sleep or anxiety in terms of supplements. Someone recommended taurine to me last summer. I was somewhat familiar- I knew that my doctor and nurse used it in their IV blend to help with pain. I knew it was an amino acid the body naturally makes.  But I had never taken it orally. I was blown away. I had no idea that it relaxes the body and nervous system, helps maintain weight loss, is a miracle for period cramps and plays a vital role in the body's digestive, cardiovascular and skeletal system. It instantly helped my anxiety and improved my quality of sleep. Let's get into the science behind both spermidine and taurine, supplements that both Harvard scientist David Sinclair and New York based longevity medical doctor Neil Paulvin recommend and has spoken about here and also check this article out here.

TAURINE:
  • Heart health: Taurine has been shown to have a protective effect on the heart. It may help to lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, and improve overall cardiovascular health.
  • Antioxidant properties: Taurine acts as an antioxidant in the body, helping to neutralize harmful free radicals and protect cells from damage.
  • Eye health: Taurine is found in high concentrations in the eye, particularly in the retina. It plays a role in maintaining eye health and may help to protect against various eye disorders.
  • Neurological function**: Taurine is important for the proper functioning of the brain and nervous system. It may help to improve cognitive function, protect against neurodegenerative diseases, and support overall brain health.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties**: Taurine has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in the body, which may help to reduce inflammation and support overall health.
The second longevity supplement in calm (beauty) is spermidine, (which you may have heard Harvard scientist David Sinclair rave about, he includes both taurine and spermidine in his 2024 anti-aging protocol here and check out this video here)
a polyamine found in soy, broccoli, mushrooms, beef and mangoes. Polyamines are important players in plant growth, stress and disease resistance. In clinical studies, spermidine has been REVERSING grey hair! How insane is that?!  Spermidine increases longevity in your body in a few ways:
  • Cell growth and proliferation: Spermidine is involved in cell growth and proliferation and is essential for cell division. It helps regulate the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids, which are crucial for cell growth.
  • Autophagy: Spermidine can mimic the benefits of fasting. It has been shown to induce autophagy, a process by which cells degrade and recycle damaged or unnecessary components. Autophagy plays a key role in maintaining cellular homeostasis and promoting cell survival. Autophagy is also achieved through fasting. This is basically your body’s way of recycling cells that are old or damaged. By doing this it essentially cleans up and gets rid of the things it doesn’t need anymore. On top of that, it’s also great for liver health, brain health and skin health along with barrier function and increases cell turnover.
  • Anti-aging effects: Research suggests that spermidine may have anti-aging effects. Studies in various organisms, including yeast, fruit flies, and mice, have shown that spermidine supplementation can lead to increased lifespan and improved healthspan.
  • Cardioprotective effects: Spermidine has been shown to have cardioprotective effects, such as reducing cardiac hypertrophy, improving heart function, and protecting against heart failure. It may also help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the cardiovascular system.
  • Neuroprotective effects: Spermidine has shown potential neuroprotective effects in various studies. It may help protect against neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's by reducing inflammation, promoting neuronal survival, and enhancing cellular stress resistance.
  • Antioxidant properties: Spermidine has antioxidant properties and can help scavenge free radicals that can damage cells and contribute to aging and disease.

Overall, spermidine plays a vital role in various biological processes and has shown promising effects in promoting health, longevity, and disease prevention.

I can't wait for you to give these supplements a try!
