Lactic Acid & Sauna: My Favorite Ritual
There’s something alchemical about heat… how steam, sweat, and ritual can awaken the skin’s natural radiance. When combined with active ingredients and intentional touch, a simple sauna or steam session becomes a deeply rejuvenating beauty treatment.
Lactic Acid: The Gentle Resurfacer
Lactic acid, one of the most skin-compatible alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), is naturally derived from fermented milk or sugar. In the warm humidity of a steam room, its effects are amplified as heat increases circulation and helps the acid penetrate more effectively.
Inside the sauna, lactic acid:
• dissolves dead skin cells while maintaining the skin’s moisture barrier
• boosts cellular renewal, revealing smoother and more even texture
• draws in hydration, unlike harsher acids that strip the skin
• enhances product absorption, prepping the skin to drink in every nutrient applied afterward
Using holi (lift) and holi (bright) during your sauna or steam session will give you a boost of hydration. The result is a luminous, glassy, bright and clear dewy finish that looks airbrushed yet entirely natural.
Gua Sha: Sculpt and Circulate
During your sauna, apply acid (wash) and holi (lift) and use your gua sha to gently sculpt the face. The heat already increases circulation; adding gua sha multiplies that effect, moving lymphatic fluid and reducing puffiness. Follow with holi (bright) and leave on for 15 minutes minimum. Rinse with water.
Consistent gua sha during sauna:
• contours and defines facial structure
• flushes toxins through lymphatic drainage
• eases muscle tension and softens expression lines
• amplifies microcirculation for a healthy post-facial flush and eases heaviness
